Candy Apples
Description
Candy Apples [1] [2] are North American treats for the holidays, especially prominent for Halloween.
Ingredients
- chopped peanuts or pecans
- 8 firm apples, such as Jonathan or Fuji
- 8 popsicle sticks
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 12 oz box Red Hots cinnamon candy
- few drops of red food coloring
Procedure
- Boil a pot of water.
- Spray a cookie sheet to grease.
- Chopped nuts should be in a dipping bowl.
- Cleanse apples.
- Take stems out of apples and poke sticks in the bottoms of the apples.
- Quickly dip each apple in the boiling water, immediately dry.
- Combine sugar, 1/2 cup of water and syrup in a pan and set to boil.
- Cook sugar water to 250 degree F.
- Include in candy and cook to 285 degree F.
- Take off of heat, add in food colouring to desired shade of red.
- Quickly dip and twist each apple, then roll the bottom portion in the nuts.
- Place on cookie sheet and repeat until all apples are done.
- Leave to cool and harden.
